On January 8, 2013 our daughter, Piper Apfel who is only three years old, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She was immediately given blood and platelet transfusions, and has started receiving chemotherapy after being delayed due to seizures. We are both Fire Fighters/Paramedics. I work for Davie Fire Rescue and my wife, Amanda, for North Palm Beach Fire Rescue. Our daughter needs blood and platelet transfusions on a regular basis for the next 2-1/2 years. If you or someone you know donates blood, please ask them to donate blood and platelets. Platelets are only good for five days, so she needs committed donors to avoid prolonging her fight.
